You find yourself walking alone down a dimly lit, eerie street when, to your absolute horror and disbelief, a group of several large men dressed entirely in black suddenly appear and start violently beating you down onto the cold, hard pavement. Despite the pain, you remain conscious enough to realize the severity of the situation and understand that you may not survive this brutal attack, prompting you to silently pray and hope for some kind of miraculous lifeline. Just as your hope begins to fade, you suddenly spot a passer-by nearby who quickly takes action by immediately calling the authorities for help.

Minutes drag on endlessly, feeling more like hours, as you desperately try to shield your most vulnerable and sensitive parts. Then, much to your immense relief, red and blue flashing lights suddenly appear, pulling up rapidly nearby. Two figures quickly leap out of the vehicle. You silently say to yourself, “Thank God for the cavalry,” as your senses start to return and your bearings slowly come back. The “boys in blue” cautiously begin advancing, shouting loudly for the men to get down immediately.

It’s at that exact moment you suddenly realize that the so-called “boys in blue” are actually two females—one who is petite and slender, and the other short and a bit chubby. Your mind instantly reverts back to a mix of shock and horror; you immediately start to wonder, now that their guns are not drawn, whether this situation is going to further devolve into a chaotic three-way ass-kicking fight. You’re so close to peeing yourself with both fear and disbelief, and you anxiously wonder when the men will finally take control, beat down these women, and forcibly commandeer their guns.

This is an absolute nightmare situation because not only are these men physically large and intimidating, but women generally face a strength disadvantage right from the start, making it even more difficult to intervene effectively. At this critical moment, you wouldn’t be able to provide much assistance either. I suppose these women happened to be nearby and responded quickly when called for help, but honestly, what kind of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (D.E.I.) hire was this that would leave an ordinary citizen in such a vulnerable and dangerous predicament?

DEI stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion, concepts that have become central to many hiring practices. Instead of focusing solely on selecting the most qualified person for a particular job based on skills and experience, organizations often aim to meet specific diversity goals by considering factors such as race or gender to fill certain quotas. I am aware that this approach is used in the Los Angeles Fire Department, an environment where implementing such measures can be especially controversial and potentially problematic given the critical nature of their work.

Imagine that you and your children are caught in a fiery blaze, surrounded by hot flames; the only thing that would matter to you would be being rescued by competent beings. Who is capable of saving you and your children, and not what race, gender they are, or what they identify as being. People shouldn’t be discriminated against because of who they are and should be qualified for what they can do, not what they represent.

This is an absolute nightmare situation because not only are these men physically large and intimidating, but women generally face a strength disadvantage from the outset, which makes the scenario even more daunting. At this critical moment, you wouldn’t be able to provide much assistance given the circumstances. It seems these ladies happened to be nearby and were able to respond to the call for help, but it really makes you wonder what kind of diversity, equity, and inclusion (D.E.I) hire this was that would leave an ordinary citizen in such a vulnerable and dangerous position without adequate support or backup.

DEI stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion, which are principles intended to guide hiring practices. However, instead of focusing solely on hiring the most qualified candidate for the job, some organizations prioritize meeting specific quotas based on race or gender. I am aware that this approach is used in the Los Angeles Fire Department, an environment where relying on such criteria can be particularly problematic and arguably inappropriate given the critical nature of the work involved.

Imagine a terrifying scenario where you and your children find yourselves trapped in a raging, fiery blaze, surrounded all around by intense, searing flames; in that critical moment, the only thing that would truly matter to you is being rescued swiftly and safely by capable, competent beings. It would no longer be a question of who they are in terms of race, gender, or any identity they claim to represent. Instead, the focus would be entirely on their ability to save lives efficiently and effectively. People should never be judged or discriminated against based on their race, gender, or identity but rather should be valued and qualified solely for their skills, abilities, and what they can genuinely contribute to the task at hand.
